This evening (21 September) in the Dutch town of Weert in the club de Bosuil it’s the official premiere of a new album from the Dutch group Nem-Q. Discussing years ago in our magazine the debut album "Opportunities of Tomorrow," I wrote this: "... it is worth to give this young band a chance, because in the music there lurks a real cocktail of genuine talent and youthful verve that certainly has a chance to explode on the next CD ". On the new album, we had to wait for 5 long years, it must be admitted that the band was able to make a significant step forward.

Enigmatically titled CD "301.81" is a concept album telling the story of Adrian, who is experiencing serious personality problems. Doctors diagnose the condition as a disease with the symbol "301.81". After implement treatment, Adrian is still experiencing bouts of aggression, suffers from a lack of empathy for the world around him and is very narcissistic. The individual songs on the album give us the dramatic conditions in which his illness falls into and shows how more and more immersed he gets in his own hermetically sealed world, despite numerous attempts from his environment to prevent it...

In addition to this rather grim concept, which kicks in right from the beginning, it's definitely a better production than the debut album from Nem-Q. Here you can see some progress (intro, melo-recital, interesting melodies, sampled strings, conversations, etc..). This also testifies to the fact that the band has matured and boldly treads the ground chosen by themselves. Well, sure you ask what are the musical territories Nem-Q explores on the album "301.81"? It is difficult to assess, because the group feels perfectly at ease mixing different styles. So we have 12 tracks on the album, which enter the mainstream of rock, metal, rhythms jazz / fusion with some references to rock and pop prog. Compared to the first Nem-Q album this production has become a little heavier and darker and with more complex arrangements. It is the progress that makes you feel the joy of playing and the still youthful energy. You can hear clearly that the band members musical influences date back to the grunge explosion. All this ensures that on "301.81" we have to do with an energetic album, which tends toward the dark thinking. It should be emphasized, however, that the music on the new album is not a classic Dutch nor neoprogressive school in which the country has always been known for making the world a number of examples of "good work" in the form of an entire galaxy of outstanding groups and albums richer. Rather, it is music "rock inside", which is likely to win the hearts of both older and younger listeners, looking for innovative sounds and arrangements.

The authors of this music: Paul Sieben sings, Mark Reijven is playing guitar, Henri van Zelst on bass, Dennis Renders piano and drums Twan Bakker.
