Nem-Q – Fault Lines

Tektonische platen botsen.
Een dubbele EP is iets nieuws, maar het is wat de Nederlandse band Nem-Q uitbracht op 21 januari. De schijven samen heten "Fault Lines" en de titels van de twee EP's zijn "Subduction Zone" en "Terranes". De cd’s zijn uitgebracht via RVPrecords en het "release concert" zal in OJC Comeet plaatsvinden. Het is de derde release van de Nederlanders en het is natuurlijk bedoeld om gevolg te geven aan het succesvolle concept album "301.81" uit 2012. Sinds het vorige album is er een nieuwe bassist in de band, en dit zorgt voor de lichte verschuiving in het geluid van "Fault Lines". De teksten aan de andere kant zijn ook heel anders in vergelijking met vroeger, meer persoonlijk en onthullend.
De woorden "Fault Lines" betekenen hetzelfde als breuk en de Noorse variant "brudd"! De subtitels verwijzen naar een botsing tussen twee tektonische platen en daarmee de aardbeving en het ontstaan van nieuwe rotsformaties na een lawine. Dramatische gevallen dus. De productie van het album is door de band zelf gedaan, terwijl de vaardige Dennis Geraads zorg heeft genomen voor de mastering en het mixen. Het nieuwe album is het derde werk van de band. Nem-Q is in 2004 opgericht toen gitarist Mark Reijven van ArrythmiA iets nieuws wou proberen. Hij vond de toon met zanger en gitarist Paul Sieben van Mexican Seafood en het ontstaan van Nem-Q is een feit.
In het begin is de muziek van de Nederlanders redelijk eenvoudig en ruw en geïnspireerd door de vroege Pain Of Salvation, Tool en Dream Theater. Wanneer toetsenist Renders van Gentle Nova wordt toegevoegd werd de muziek meer progressief en subtieler. De naam van de band Nem-Q is afgeleid van het Latijnse woord “namque” dat “bijvoorbeeld” betekent. Of Nem-Q een echt gevestigde band gaat worden buiten hun eigen land valt nog te bezien!?

Tectonic plates collide.
A double EP is a new acquaintance, but it is actually what the Dutch band Nem-Q released on January 21st. The discs are called "Fault Lines" and the titles of the two EPs are "Subduction Zone" and "Terranes". The discs are released via RVPrecords and the "release concert" will take place in OJC Comeet. These discs are the third release of the Dutch band, and it is obviously intended to follow up the successful "301.81" concept album from 2012. Since the last album, a new bassist has come to the band, and it implies the slight twist in the sound of "Fault Lines". However, the lyrics are also quite different compared to before, since they are more personal and revealing.
The words "Fault Lines" are the same as fracture and in Norwegian "brudd"! The subtitles refer to clashes between two tectonic plates and, consequently, earthquakes, and the forming of new rock formations after an avalanche. Dramatic things. The production of the disc was done by the band itself, while skilled Dennis Geraads has taken care of mastering and mixing. The new album is the band's third. Nem-Q was founded in 2004 when guitarist Mark Reijven of Arrytmia wanted to try something new. He found the tone with vocalist and guitarist Paul Sieben from Mexican Seafood, and Nem-Q is a fact.
In the beginning, the music of the Dutch band was reasonably simple and rugged and inspired by early Pain Of Salvation, Tool and Dream Theater. When keyboard player Dennis Renders from Gentle Nova joins, the music became more progressive and subtle. The band name Nem-Q is derived from the Latin word “namque” which means “for instance”. Whether Nem-Q becomes a really established band beyond their own country remains to be seen?!
